Mae – Singularity

Mae is a power-pop rock group from Norfolk, Virginia whose name is an acronym for Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience, based on a hypothesis developed by drummer Jacob Marshall while a student at Old Dominion University, pretty weird. “Singularity” is Mae's third full length release and their major label debut on Capitol records. This CD seems like Mae’s surrender to their power-pop nature, allowing more keyboard prominence, while they still hold on to a basic rock group sound. Although Mae seems to fall under the obsessed teenage girl fanbase they still manage to create songs with impressive musical complexity and depth. “Singularity” may not be one of the very best releases this year it offers a very comfortable and exciting listening experience.

Air Traffic – Fractured Life

Air Traffic is an English piano rock band from Bournemouth whose name originates from when they used to practice next to a runway at Hurn Airport, where air traffic control signals could be picked up on their amplifiers, pretty cool. “Fractured Life” is Air Traffics debut album and is full of some of the best piano-based British rock ever made. Air Traffic creates music that is both beautiful and catchy with a great sense of songwriting maturity that holds everything together. This is a band that is bound to get deeply stuck in your head.

Meese

Meese is a piano pop-rock band from Denver, Colorado whose name is also the last name of brothers and band mates Patrick and Nathan Meese, pretty original... not! Meese has one full length release entitled “Our Album Year” and one EP of winter 2007 recordings. Although this band’s sound might come off as nothing but soft sugar-pop more listens will reveal a solid and incredibly encapsulating style. Meese is creating some interesting and meaningful music that won’t stay “indie” for too long, so it’d be a good idea to get your fix before this band rivals The Fray in popularity.
