Feist – The Reminder

Leslie Feist is a Canadian singer-songwriter who performs as a solo artist under the name Feist, and as a member of Broken Social Scene. “The Reminder” is Feist’s third full length release and is as equally mysterious and enjoyable and her previous work. “The Reminder” seems to follow the same setup as Feist’s last release “Let It Die”. Just as the song “Mushaboom”, “My Moon My Man” anchors “The Reminder” and sets the slow-paced yet quick thinking tone for the rest of the songs. Although a single does stand out, each song off of “The Reminder” does have merit and offers more insight into the complex simplicity of Feist’s songwriting.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Baby 81

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is an American garage folk band from San Francisco, California, now based in Los Angeles. “Baby 81” is their four album and follow up to their critically acclaimed release “Howl”. “Baby 81” has much more edge than “Howl” but still satisfies the hunger for their original and fast-paced folk-rock noise instilled from their previous releases. “Weapon Of Choice” gives a smooth transition from the style of “Howl” and also helps ease into the introduction of these 13 new vigorous tracks. Some songs are surprisingly strong and some are as surprisingly mellow but the overall production is a big success.

Midlake

Midlake is an American rock band from Denton, Texas. Midlake’s music isn’t pushy or provocative, it is simply there to comfort your ears and ease your mind. The five members of the band flawlessly combine their playing to create such a smooth noise that it sounds as if they haven’t invented new songs but entirely new instruments. Their latest release “The Trials Of Van Occupanther” is an instant classic that could never be worn down or drawn out and won’t quickly leave your musical frame of mind.
